Video: Get to Know PROMISE Academy PROMISE Academy Highlight Video Show Transcript what I love about this school promise is not something that happens every year it always changes because the kids change the school is designed for you and with you so it's going to be constantly evolving we interviewed kids and we said what do you want and they said I want a school where people care about us I want to know why I'm learning what I'm learning and I want opportunities that are going to help me in a life I have and the life I want to have I developed a team and everybody had extra expertise in certain areas I got to hire the staff that are aligned with the philosophy of that school to have the opportunity to say to kids what do you want from me so that's what kids need that's what education's supposed to be not something that's done to you something that's done for you when you're where you feel like you have teachers that support you and want you to get an education when I enjoy the environment in my class I like to work harder here I get to be a lot closer to who I am as a person and the kids accept that and they're more willing to like work for me they're more willing to meet my high expectations for them having those relationships we can motivate kids in ways that you you couldn't in a big environment you can sit and talk to them and and you you know that we've met their parents or you know their interests you can draw those connections you see everybody else doing good too so then you also want to do good you want to match that cuz everybody here is so smart and doing so good in school you want to be with that you don't want to be the 1 person out we do reading and writing every single day which is the district Focus but how we attack those reading and writing so it's different my students have done debates in class they've done art projects in class and I'm a history teacher there's not a 1 size fits all and how you're going to learn and how you're going to get where you need to go it's really great because when I do my child's it helps my talking at first I did not like talking in front of people I was scared but after doing my childhood really showed me how great it was to talk in front of people I'm the head student I have to learn from my students I have to learn what they want what they need what they desire and saying what can I do to provide you with the best possible education that's designed for for you when they see themselves as part of the classroom they have ownership of their learning it's not just about teaching it's about learning and that's what we want kids to do there's so much opportunity here not just to grow as a student but as a person as well and also I feel like the friends you here like more lasting because other high schools so big this was more small so it's more of like the connections are really their promise is a family you're a part of a community you're a part of something and every kid they're all different they're like puzzle pieces but when you put them together they fit perfect perfectly and it it promises a great place to be it's a great place to work great place to learn and I'm very fortunate to be the Principal
